# Live

# Live

Watch this device's channels as they arrive. Arrange them in tabs of panes,
each pane holding one or more tiles.

| Region | Shows |
|---|---|
| Left | **channels**, and **events** when there can be any |
| Middle | tabs, each split into panes of tiles |
| Right | the details panel, when you open it |

## Tabs

Press **+** (**New tab**) to add a tab. Double-click a tab, or press **F2**, to
rename it. Drag a tab to reorder it.

Right-click a tab for the rest:

| **Rename…** | renames the tab |
| **Duplicate tab** | copies the tab and its panes |
| **Open this tab by default** | opens Live on this tab |
| **Full screen** | fills the window with this tab |
| **Split right** / **Split down** | splits the active pane |
| **Reset this tab's layout** | resets tile order and sizes in each pane; the tiles stay |
| **Close** | closes the tab (not offered on the only tab) |

## Panes

Each pane header has the same buttons:

| Button | Does |
|---|---|
| **Add a tile to this pane** | opens the pane picker |
| **Split right** / **Split down** | adds an empty pane beside or below |
| **Full screen this pane** | fills the tab with this pane; **Restore (Esc)** brings it back |
| **Close pane** | removes the pane |

Drag a channel from the channel browser onto a pane. Drop it on an edge to
**Split left**, **Split right**, **Split up** or **Split down**. Drop it in the
middle to **Add to this pane**.

## The pane picker

An empty pane asks **What goes in this pane?** Click it to search
**Search channels, cameras, tiles…**. Chips narrow the list by kind:
**Channels**, **Cameras**, **Derived**, **3D**, **Map**, **Saved tiles**. Only
kinds this device has appear. The list shows eight rows; type more to narrow
it.

## Tiles

A tile's **Send to** menu moves it:

- **Split right** or **Split down** — into a new pane
- **Solo in this pane** — hide the pane's other tiles
- **Move to tab** — another tab, or **New tab…**

The toolbar on the right of the tab row:

| Control | Does |
|---|---|
| **Place a mark on the last 10 s** | marks the last 10 seconds (**M**) |
| **Freeze tiles** | stops redrawing; **Resume live updates** restarts |
| **Show channel browser** | opens the channel list on the left |
| **Show details** | opens the details panel (**i**) |
| **Live display settings** | **Tile up to** N channels; above that, only pinned channels and media get tiles |

## The details panel

Press **i** or **Show details**. Then click a tile, a mark or a log line. The
panel shows each channel on the tile with its value, its marks,
**Find in channels** and **Copy path**. Opening the panel narrows the panes; a
click alone never opens it.

## Full screen on a rig display

Right-click the tab and choose **Full screen**. On macOS, press **⌃⌘F**. The
tab fills the screen with no toolbar. Press **Esc** to exit.

## Layouts belong to the project

Tabs, panes and tiles are saved with the active project. Switch project and Live
shows that project's arrangement. Use `phloem layout get live` to read one and
`phloem layout put live` to set it from a file.

> **Tip:** Removing a tile leaves its pane behind, empty. Click it to pick something else, or **Close pane**.
