Trace

See the records from your team's other tools in one place, and get flagged when something a procedure relies on changes at its source.

What it holds

SourceRecords
Issue trackers, CAD and PLM, ERP (Jira, Onshape, Odoo)issues, requirements, parts, assemblies — named as each tool names them
A database or file connectorits databases, schemas, tables and files, with columns
Phloem itselfdevices, fleets, assets and datasets
Hammingfindings and metrics it noted — shown as asserted, not synced

Each record keeps:

  • its fields and keys (a part number, a handle)
  • its links to other records
  • its History: every version Phloem has seen, newest first, with what changed. If the source tool keeps no revisions, Phloem tracks them and shows seen changed.

Each connector's page has a Records section: sync status, records by kind, Sync now, and Open in Trace (Trace filtered to that source).

From a change to a flag

  1. A Trellis document cites a field of a record, such as a limit from a requirement. Saving the document stores the value and its revision.
  2. The source tool changes that field.
  3. Trace raises a change that names the document and the field, with the cited value and the new one.
  4. Someone opens it under Changes and chooses Dispose: a Verdict (Retest required, Accepted without retest, Not applicable, Updated), a Reason, and optionally an Authority.

The document is never changed automatically. A run's Context shows what its procedure cited, marked changed after this run if the source has changed since.

Hamming cites too. When it writes a limit that lives in another tool, it looks up the record and cites it instead of copying the number. In chat it names the records it used.

In the console

Trace in the sidebar has three tabs:

TabShows
Recordssearch, a Kind filter and Sources; three views — map (every kind, opening into groups), list, and graph (records and their links)
Changesopen changes, each waiting for a disposition
Activitythe change log, in sentences

Select a record to see its Fields, Keys, Links, Cited by, History, and Open in the tool it came from.
