TimescaleDB

Time-series database built on PostgreSQL

Category
Databases
Runs in
The Phloem cloud — nothing to install

Lets you and Hamming query a TimescaleDB database with SQL, with its hypertables and continuous aggregates listed in Trace.

What Phloem reads

  • Schemas, tables, views, columns and foreign keys, listed in Trace for Hamming and SQL autocomplete
  • Hypertables, marked with their time column and compression setting
  • Continuous aggregates, read as materialized views
  • TimescaleDB's internal schemas and chunk tables are left out

What you need

  • The database's host and port (default 5432), reachable from Phloem's cloud
  • The database name (tsdb on TimescaleDB Cloud)
  • A username and password (tsdbadmin on TimescaleDB Cloud). A role with SELECT only is best.

Connect

  1. In the console, open Connectors, choose Add connector, then TimescaleDB.
  2. Enter a Display Name, then Host, Port, Database, Username and Password.
  3. Choose an SSL Mode. The default is Require SSL (recommended); TimescaleDB Cloud requires SSL.
  4. Choose Test Connection, then Create Connection.

What Hamming can do

  • Run SQL that you or Hamming write

Notes

  • Phloem runs any statement, not only SELECT. The role's privileges decide what a query can change.
  • A plain PostgreSQL database without TimescaleDB also connects, without the TimescaleDB details.
